Double Banger for Kaighin and Daughter |
It was a double celebration for Kaighin and Daughter, the family owned butchers shop in Grayshott, as they achieved two firsts in both sections of the supreme sausage competition at this years Haslemere Food Festival. In the traditional section they won with their locally famous Herbie Sausage and for the speciality section they created a Pork, Stilton and Celery sausage which proved a real winner with the voting public. Alan Kaighin collected the awards from Melanie Odell, Mayor of Haslemere, at the Aga shop in Haslemere high street, where tastings have been taking place with the public all week. The Kaighin’s were thrilled to have won both sections, and in particular the traditional section, as it was the first time they had won this category. Kaighin and Daughter are a traditional butchers, fishmongers and delicatessen in the award winning village of Grayshott. They have some 30 different varieties of sausages in their recipe book, which they rotate by popularity and the seasons. For summer barbeques the Merquez, a lamb based sausage, or a traditional South African boerewoer sausage have proved popular with their customers. There seems no end to Kaighin and Daughter’s sausage creativity as for ‘Firkin Fest’, Grayshott’s first beer festival at the end of October, they will have the Beer Belly Banger a pork sausage flavoured with local beer in their counter. If you can’t wait until then, why not come along to Grayshott’s boundary walk on Sunday 27 th Sept where you will be able to try their award winning sausages, as Kaighin and Daughter will be barbequing in the village square between 10am and 12 noon in aid of the village square refurbishment fund. Kevin and Caroline look forward to welcoming you to their shop in Grayshott, where not only can they delight you with their sausages but offer a comprehensive range of locally sourced produce and tempting treats. |

The Scotch Beef Show Kevin Kaighin Travels to Scotland to judge prestigious Scotch Beef competition. |
In 2008 Kevin Kaighin was invited to Inverurie, Aberdeenshire, to judge the Best Carcass award in the Scotch Beef Show. During the trip, Kevin and Caroline met many of the local farming families who supply to Scotch Premier, and other butchers who all have high regard for the beef. "It was great to see the mutual respect that Scotch Premier managers have with the farming community- a close knit group of people who all care about their products." |
